seperate the wheat from the chaff
 

anybody got any ideas on seperating the grains of barley from the stalks
of hand harvested barley i know about winnowing but need some way to
first crush the stalks to be able to winnow i can do it by hand but this is very
time consuming.how did they do it in medievil times?

Start with a flail, then build a round barn with a threshing floor and let your oxen walk it out.

Thanks I think the flail was the forgotten tool I was looking for
